Delegates from China YMCA at the 2019 World YMCA National General Secretaries Conference

On February 10---18, at the beginning of the Chinese New Year, General Secretary Dr. Wu Jianrong and Secretary Wang lu from National Council of YMCAs of China went to Australia to attend 2019 World YMCA National General Secretaries Conference held in Brisbane and later visited YMCA Victoria. About 50 delegates from various countries and regions came together in Brisbane.
 
 
In July 2018, the new leadership was elected and Quadrennial WAY Strategy got approved at the 19th YMCA World Council. At this important stage, the WAY held 2019 World YMCA NGS Conference to introduce Quadrennial WAY Strategy and WAY SG Vision to NGS of each YMCA, and mobilize YMCAs at national and regional levels to support and respond to WAY strategy, so that YMCAs can play an active role in promoting social progress and development.
 
Focusing on themes of “Collaboration, Movement Relevance, Financial Sustainability”, the conference arranged three lectures and three successful Y cases to introduce experience and inspire reflection from the perspective of professional development.
 
 
To explore how the Global Strategy reflected in local YMCAs, delegates went on tour of YMCA Brisbane facilities to explore opportunities to work collaboratively with government and enterprises.
 
 
Delegates from the same region discussed and made action plans based on lectures, case studies, field trips and each YMCA situation. With the view to developing simple and efficient projects, the Asia-Pacific Ys expressed their determination to promote GATN (alternative tourism), climate change and peace-promoting projects. The African Ys set the goal of serving one million young people a year. The European Ys developed a list of cooperation projects to promote urgent and structural adjustment, while the North American Ys will focus on the integration of new immigrants.
 
The World Alliance planned to revolve around the UN 2030 SDGs and promote cooperation at the national and local levels in five areas such as disaster response, youth empowerment, climate change and mental health. In addition, the World Alliance planned to establish a Global Impact Foundation to support international cooperation and exchanges.
 
YMCA175, Change Agent cohort4 were also discussed at the conference to call on each YMCA to make preparation for the YMCA landmark anniversary event.
  
 
During the conference, China Y delegates actively networked with YMCAs from other countries and regions, made friends and publicized the development of China Y. The idea of establishing foundation for sustainable Y development was recognized by participants. The exchange and sharing mainly included: exchanging views with Secretary General of the WAY and the APAY on the restoration of the membership of China YMCA; explored the difficult and key elements in YMCA platform with Hong Kong and Taiwan delegates; communicated with the Japanese Y on the preparation of China-Japan-Korea Peace Forum ; confirmed leadership visit plans with the US Y and the Russia Y; expressed exchange and cooperation intention with the YMCAs of Germany, Sri Lanka, Mongolia, Zambia, New Zealand and Cambodia.
 
 
According to the arrangement of the conference, China delegates also visited YMCA Victoria Early Learning Center, Aquatics Sports Center, Roller Skating Park, etc. They also had good communication with representatives from Melbourne Chinese Christian Churches and met with Ex-President of YMCA Victoria Ian Jungwirth.
