The outbreak of Novel Corona Virus Pandemic has become a worldwide concern at present, it is the common goal for people to stand in solidarity and defeat the pandemic.
How should we protect ourselves at the critical moment of joint prevention and control?
The National Council of YMCAs and YWCAs in China has collected a list of epidemic prevention tips for the upcoming pandemic. We hope everyone is safe and healthy!
1What precautions should be taken in your daily life?
(1) Practice good personal hygiene. Cover your mouth and nose with a disposable tissue when coughing or sneezing; wash your hands frequently; use soap or hand sanitizer and wash your hands with running water; and wipe your hands with s disposable tissue or a clean towel; do not touch your eyes, nose, or mouth with dirty hands; wash your hands whenever you return home from any activity that involves locations where other people have been; do not share towels, glasses, etc with family members; do not spit on the ground; wrap mouth and nose secretions with a disposable tissue and discard into a trash can with cover.
(2) Enhance your physical fitness and boost your immunity. Eat a balanced diet, exercise regularly, and organize your daily schedule to avoid excessive fatigue.
(3) Keep your place clean and well- ventilated. Open the window for no less than 3 times a day, 20-30 minutes each time. When the air quality is low, the frequency and time of ventilation should be appropriately reduced.
(4) Avoid gatherings; avoid close contact with people who have symptoms of respiratory diseases (such as fever, coughing or sneezing); try to avoid crowded places or close settings, if you have to go to such places, please wear masks.
(5) Avoid contact with wild animals, poultry and livestock.
(6) Form a healthy eating habit. Eat fully-cooked meat and eggs.
(7) If symptoms of respiratory tract infection such as cough, a runny nose, fever, etc. occur, you should take a rest at home in isolation and seek medical attention as soon as possible if the fever persists or the symptoms worsen.
(8) Maintain good respiratory hygiene habits. When coughing or sneezing, cover your mouth and nose with a disposable tissue or a towel, etc. Wash your hands after coughing or sneezing, and avoid touching your eyes, nose, or mouth with your hands.
2Practice proper handwashing
Proper handwashing is an effective measure to prevent diarrhea and respiratory infections. Use soap or hand sanitizer and wash your hands with running water. Wipe your hands with a disposable tissue or a clean towel. Wash your hands immediately after touching respiratory secretions (such as after sneezing).
3When do you need to wash your hands?
(1) Before and after passing files.
(2) After coughing, sneezing or touching respiratory secretions with your hands.
(3) Before, during and after preparing food.
(4) Before eating.
(5) After going to the bathroom.
(6) When hands are dirty.
(7) After contacting others.
(8) After contacting animals.
(9) Returning home from outside.
4What should you do if it is not convenient to wash your hands when you are out?
You can use alcohol-based disinfection products to clean your hands, for 75% alcohol inactivates the virus. Alcohol-containing disinfection products to a certain concentration can be used as an alternative to washing hands with soap and running water.
5How to take the elevator correctly?
(1) Be sure to bring a mask, and touch the elevator buttons with a disposable tissue or something else instead of your finger tip.

(2) Try not to communicate in the elevator, and don't step into a crowded elevator.
(3) Stairs are recommended for low floors and try not to touch the handrail.
6How to create a healthy diet plan?
(1) Purchase high quality frozen or chilled poultry and meat. Do not eat wild animals or animals with diseases.
(2) Cook meat, poultry, egg and milk thoroughly. Even in virus-ridden areas, meat can be safely consumed if it is thoroughly cooked and properly handled during preparation.
(3) Separate cutting boards and knives for raw and cooked food. Wash hands in between when preparing raw and cooked food.
(4) Drink plenty of water.
(5) Ensure adequate nutrition.
7How can you avoid the risk of getting infected in public places?
(1) Wearing a mask reduces the risk of exposure to pathogens.
(2) When coughing or sneezing, cover your nose completely with a disposable tissue or your sleeves or elbows; immediately discard used tissues in a trash can with cover; after coughing and sneezing, wash your hands with soap and running water or alcohol-based hand sanitizers.
(3) Do not spit on the ground. Wrap nose and mouth secretion with a disposable tissue and discard in a trash can with cover.
(4) Avoid coming into close contact with farm animals or wild animals without protection.
(5) Try to avoid all kinds of parties.
(6) Wash your hands immediately when returning home.
8How can you avoid the risk of getting infected when purchasing in the market?
(1) Try to avoid going to markets where live animals are sold.
(2) Wear a mask to reduce the risk of exposure to pathogens; avoid touching your eyes, nose, and mouth.
(3) Wash hands with soap and running water after touching animals and animal products.
(4) Avoid contacting sick animals and stale meat.
(5) Avoid contacting stray animals and waste water in the market.
9How to correctly understand COVID-19?
(1) Actively learn scientific epidemic prevention knowledge and strengthen protection awareness. Protecting yourself from being infected is your greatest commitment to your community.
(2) The severe pandemic cannot be eliminated only with the efforts of the government and hospitals. It needs the cooperation of the whole community. No solution or measure is perfect especially in dandling a severe pandemic, and we can only adopt the relatively good measures. It is impossible to protect everyone in every aspect.
(3) We shouldn’t discriminate against people based on their races and regions in epidemic prevention. Extra precautions should be taken towards those from virus-ridden areas, but they should not be treated as enemies.
(4) The pandemic is also an opportunity for changing for the better. How to handle a pandemic reveals many problems. For example, it may reflect lack of modern governance in some local governments and lack of basic self-protection awareness among people.
(5) Hope is the most powerful motivating force in overcoming difficulties. There are no endless winter and no spring that cannot come, we rest assured that the epidemic will be defeated, and spring will soon come.
